ASSEMBLY CUT USING COPY GEOM WITH TABLE SHELF AS AN ASSEMBLY

I am trying to cut the leg area out of the shelf.

the leg is copy geometry that i have copied into the shelf asssembly.

is there a way to do an assembly cut using the intersection of the leg (copy geometry)with the shelf assembly??

i am using creo 4.0
