Assembly Relationships - Same Part File

Hey, I'm assembling some modular furniture and for example want to use the same part file for two doors, but I want them to be two different heights. Is there a way to change the dynamic dimension (d0:8) so that they each have their own one (i.e they're independent)? At the moment I'm just duplicating the part file so that I can have a different verison but that's not really ideal as fundamentally they are the same thing. Kind Regards, Scott

Scott, Use the Flexibility functionality. Open the door part. Click Edit > Set Up > Flexibility and select the feature having the height then select the height dimension. This will allow you to assemble the door multiple times with your choice of the height value each time. Back to the assembly, you don't have to delete the doors and re-assemble them. Just redefine a door component and you'll see the flexibility in the placement dashboard. You can alter the height from there. See Help Center for more detailed info.

If both doors are identical in every other way and only vary in height I think a family table of the door work for you.

Sorry, I entered a response in the wrong thread.

The choice between using family table or flexibility depends on how you want to structure the BOM and also the manufacturing routing. If it's OK for the 2 doors with different height to have 2 different part numbers, go with the family table. If you must maintain the same part number for both, go with flexibility.

Hey guys, thanks for your informative responses. I made the dimension flexible as suggested. However in my assembly when I edit the flexibility of one door (i.e the height)it still makes the adjustment to both doors. Any ideas why this might be? Note that I have a door front (which I applied the flexibility too) which is within a door assembly (adds hinges). It is two door assemblies that I am importing into my furniture assembly (hope that makes sense) Does this make a difference? Kind Regards, Scott

Just solved my own problem 😛 Needed to make the height flexible through one of the door assemblies... as opposed to just the door part, as it meant it was applying the same flexible variable to both copies of my door assembly. Thanks for pointing me to the Flexibility option! I'll explore the family table when I get a chance also. Your help has been appreciated, Kind Regards, Scott
