Barcode from a part name

has anyone generated a barcode from the part name and had it show up on the detail drawing?

Sorry, I am not sure what do you mean by saying generate a barcode from part name? Are you mean the information that will be encoded into barcode is from certain part name?

We have unique names for everyone one of our parts, "job#-sub assembly#-detail #" or 200100-100-06

We did develop a method of having that part number be shown on the detail drawing of the part as a barcode. This inturn allows the machinist to scan the barcode to access 3D and 2D CAD information from our server.

You could probably create your own custom font to do this. Take a look at this thread.

According to your description, I think you need to generate bar code by integrate bar code creator with other tool.

I don;t know whether you have solved it, if possible, hope you can share it.
