Center of gravity of parts in assembly

Hello

I am faily new to creo

i am using creo 7

I have an assembly and have defined a custom coordinate system origin in the assembly file

i am trying to get the center of gravity of a part in the assembly with respect to my "assembly" custom CS

What i am seeing is:

1) i can only open the part and get the CS of the part with respect to a CS "inside" the part file.

or

2) i can get the CG of the whole assembly with respect to a custom CS.

both options are not what i need

i need the CG of a part in an assembly with respect to a custom "assembly" CS

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

thanks so much tbraxton

that was exactly what i was looking for.

looks like the key is to just "activate the part" in the assembly.

greatly appreciate your input!!!

In assembly mode:

Activate the part of interest in the assembly

Create an analysis feature for the mass properties of the part

Select the csys you want to use to make the calculation as shown below in yellow and complete the analysis

Also, if you scroll down on in results of the mass properties, it gives you the COG of each part in the assembly along with mass and density.

Also it creates a text file in your working directory that I import in to excel so I can format it to be easier to read or for other purposes.

Hello Stephen

one question i have would be when you have an assembly with sub assembly's and i use the mass properties feature to get the printout of the CGs of the components it only shows the sub assembly CGs and not the individual parts "inside" the sub-assemblies.  is there a setting that gives me ALL the CGs of even the sub assembly parts as well.

thank you very much for your input and help

No, it only goes the one level.

You can however use @tbraxton method to get the sub-level parts of that assembly.

I can't see an easy way to get all levels in one shot.

ok

thank you very much for your help

all great information!
