Changing individual surface colors for co-planar and co-cylindrical surfaces

Folks,


I know that this topic has been brought up numerous times on the exploder and elsewhere, but I'm not sure what true solutions exist.


What I'm attempting to do is to color different surfaces areas ona model different colors. As long as the surfaces are not planar or at the same diameter - no problem - this can be done with ease. The problem arises when I need either co-planar (on the same plane) or co-cylindrical (on the same diameter) surface patches to be assigned differentcolors. By default, if I select a single co-planar or co-cylindrical surface to color, all surfaces at in the same plane or at the same diameter throughout the model are also simultaneously selected. I need to be able to assign different colors to each of the surfaces.


With that being said, most folks are going to suggest copying or offsettingthe necessary surfaces and then applying the desired color to the copy/offset surface. If only working in Pro/E(Creo), this would be a decent work-around. Unfortunately once the model has been assigned the correct combination of colors, I then need to export this model as an Wavefront file (.obj) to import into the third-party application Keyshot. With the approach of using copy or offset surfaces for color assignment, these surfaces do not come across during the export/import process into Keyshot. Therein lies the dilemma. I need to be able to assign the color directly to the different solid model surfaces in Pro/E for the export process to retain this color information.


If anyone has insight as to how to assign different colors to co-planar or co-cylindrical solid surface patches in Pro/E without using the copy/offset surface technique, this input would be deeply appreciated.


These efforts are required in Wildfire 5.
