Compatibility Between Student and Commercial Licenses in PTC Creo Parametric 8
Hi everyone,
I’m currently using a floating student license provided by my university, and I have a question about compatibility between the educational and commercial versions of PTC software.
As part of my project, I need to design a part and an assembly that will be inserted into an existing assembly created using a commercial license. The part should remain editable even after the project is completed.
Does anyone know if a part created in the educational version can be opened and modified in the commercial version without issues? Are there any restrictions or workarounds I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
Sincerely
Peter

- The license module EDU_COM_Convert allows files that were created in an education version to be retrieved into a commercial version
- Please consider what follows before going on reading:
- Converting files from Educational to commercial is only allowed for Uni+ licenses who have a partnership doing non founded research with a commercial company.
- It is otherwise prohibited to change education files to commercial, as this would not comply with the education license agreement (of not using the education license for any commercial work)

Student and commercial versions are totally INCOMPATIBLE. Files created by one cannot be opened by the other.

The files are not compatible.
However, you (or your university) can contact PTC and they can help. There is a specific license that will convert the files. I assume this is NOT free.
If you are planning on doing this, you should definitely make arrangements with PTC prior to doing the work.
