Counterbore/Countersink hole Notes on Drawing.

Pro/E allows us to to create Countersunk and Counterbore holes in the model. Is there a way to get the note on the drawing to read in the format shown in the attched image?

I tried to do this in the past. (I'm on WF3) I know you can edit the
'format' of the note in the .hol file. Below you can see what this
looks like in notepad...





You want to edit the CALLOUT_FORMAT line. If I remember correctly you
will need to create different .hol files for each different callout you
want though. (i.e. one for CBore and one for CSink) This is due to
wanting some things on one call out and others on another callout. I
was hoping they would have this fixed with Creo. Can anyone chime in on
that?

The hole table functionality is definitely lacking. There is the ability with the hole table to create a matrix of callouts for each possible configuration of the hole tool. Look in the documentation for "DEFAULT_CALLOUT_FORMAT_DATA". The major limitation with the hole feature in general is that the note callout text (as defined in the matrix or the "CALLOUT_FORMAT" field) will NOT update the note text format during feature redefinition unless you manually pick "update note". This means if you decide to "turn on" some aspect of the hole feature, the callout will not reflect your change unless you remember to manually tell it to reset the note text every time. Below is a sample of this matrix (still a work in progress). This will look best when viewed in a constant width font.

There are some improvements that the hole feature could use, but you do not need separate files to change the note callouts. See attached on formatting the callout matrix.

Holy cow! (pardon the pun) That’s a huge file compared to the original. Why wouldn’t we all want this as default functionality? Now I know why I never went there… Also, I agree with the manual update comment. I’ve had to go back and update holes before. Now why would they create a button to allow you to update the note and not just have it update automatically??? If the hole has changed, would it not be required that you change the note to match it???

Good Friday morning to all,
From Tom’s email show below showing the Default_Callout_Format_Data. Does anybody know if it’s possible when you have a clearance drill to differentiate between the Close Fit and Free Fit that Creo 2.0 now offers in this table? I can either call out the Free Fit or the Close Fit, but format of the note won’t change when switching between the two fits. I have attached my unc.hol to show you what I just created for my company.

You can reference any of the hole table columns directly in your note, including “CLEAR_DR_CLEAR”, “CLEAR_DR_FREE”, etc. You cannot, however, automatically change the format of the note based on which fit is used since “fit” is not one of the columns in the hole callout matrix. Changing the fit will not select a different row in the matrix.

I should clarify one thing. If you want the note to read correctly regardless of which fit is used, use “DRILL_DIAMETER” instead. This will always read the actual value used instead of simply what is listed in the table for the three different fits.

It is a lot of work, but like you said once you get it set up it’s absolutely fantastic. Now I get this automatically created when I put in a hole feature.

I want to re-stress that the note callout will not change if you turn off aspects of the hole feature after the hole has already been placed. For example, if you turn off the exit countersink, the note will still include the “EXIT V X” portion of the note. To get the note to change you MUST select “Reset” from the Note tab EVERY time you make changes to what is turned on/off. “Reset” effectively reselects the callout format from the callout matrix.

Hi All,

I'm struggling with this too, making a parametric hole note / call out. In my case, I can cause Creo to crash, pretty much on command when annotating a c'sunk hole. Instead of just making a note attached to the hole with manually entered numbers, I am using the "&adXX:X" system dims [dimension, then double click the hole edge to get a dim] in the note call-out; one for the smaller, inner dia, and the other for the larger, outer dia. SO, my hole note will have 3 lines, the first line being the small dia: "&adXX:X", the 2nd line will have the larger, c-sunk dia.: "\ /&adXX:X x 82°" and the last line (3rd line) is how many I have: "3 HOLES", per the ANSI standards.

It grabs them no problem,, and I have my hole note. all is good, so far. Even with the green dot saying it's all up to date & regenerated. But, then when I try to add a 2nd sheet to the drawing, crash! Even some printing tries have caused it to crash. Now, it does seem to work well if it's the first & only model. But, if I close, clean the memory, then re-open it, it will then crash upon adding the 2nd sheet... And, it only happens when I grab the two dimensions into a note. If I leave them as 2 dims, no problems..

I do this type of note routinely for rectangles, obrounds, and hex holes. But it's only the c-sunk holes that seem to crash my system.

Hi all,

Today, I had a bit spare time so I decided to customize my hole notes. I had already done for threaded holes, now it's done for countersink and counterbore holes. I'm quite happy about that as it's not a really easy job as usual with PTC.

Here's what I get now !

As I'm note an egoist guy, I share my hole file ! It's for metric holes.

Hello everyone!

I use a similar .hol file to call out dowel holes.  It works perfectly outside of Windchill.  When I check in the model/drawing and open it via Creo View, the callout information is missing.  Does anyone else have that problem?
