Creo vs SpaceClaim Engineer - STEP files

It is only since we have purchased a SCE license, that I have noticed just how competant SCE is at importing STEP files successfully as 3D solid models. Creo does not seem to be able to carry out this function effectively on geometry that is 'complicated'.

I received seven STEP files from a customer today - each of which were complicated compressor casting models - none of which I was able to import as a solid part. My colleague successfully imported all seven as solid models successfully into SpaceClaim Engineer. Am I missing something here ? Would appreciate some feedback, particularly if there is an easier way to go about this - successfully !

Can you export them out of SCE (as STEP or even X_T) and see what happens?
