Does anyone have a process for using ECAD IDF files within Windchill that they are willing to share? We currently model an assembly of the PCB with a part for the bare board, place critical components/connectors. We use ECAD keep out/in areas on the bare board and create a drawing of the assembly. All the files are checked in and promoted to RELEASED (locked).
Our Electronics Engineers send our PCB layout subcontractors their electronic information and an IDF, PDF and DXF files. The PCB layout subcontractors send back Gerber files that our Electronics Engineer check and an IDF file that we use to import into the Creo assembly using the investigate placement option in the dialogue box.
This is were our process falls down slightly - the assembly is released. The IDF can be imported to the assembly in a workspace, but the assembly cannot then be checked in with the updated info without revising. We would also like to attach the IDF file to the CoGPart of the assembly, but this is also released.
That's probably not explained very well, but gives a indication of what we want to achieve and the problems.
Thanks for your time.
David.
David,
have you ever consider to use IDX instead of IDF?

Hi Marco
The format is not the issue, we would still have the problem of objects being released in Windchill.
