Emn and emp files

Does anybody know if there is a way to import the reference designator
or actual part number when importing emn files? All I have ever got was
whatever size designator the layout guys give the component, but nothing
as to value, part number, or reference designator. I understand that's
enough to get a good representation of the board, but I sometimes need
to know what the actual part number or value is, and I don't know of
anywhere in an emn file that that information shows up.

Has anyone been able to import this information?

Hi Ken,

The information from the emn file is imported at the PCB Board .asm level.
This information is not available at the part level.

To view the reference designator information at the board assembly level,
choose Settings, Tree Columns, and add the reference designator to your
model tree. I believe the ecad_name and the ecad_alt_name can also be
added to the tree columns.

To view the "value" and "part number" in Pro/E, this information needs to
be the emn file upon export from your ECAD Tool. Prior to export to an
emn file, most companies set up the ecad_name to be the footprint
(geometry) name. Some companies set up the ecad_alt_name to be the part
number. See page 5 of the powerpoint at the following link:
