How should I start this I keep getting a square edge.
Since that image came off an education site, is this a homework assignment?
I will start with a simple rule: Keep It Simple!
Multiple features are better than one.
Create the outer surface. Extrude the inside feature until then inside surface.
Start with the top profile, extrude to the height
add draft and outside radii
shell to get the 'canoe' shape
add the bosses and ribs
