HELP! Traceback log created and CREO closing down

[ptc-5085682]

Hi all,

I am working with a client who has had previous work done with another company who use Solidworks. They have output his component files to .prt, however there is no model tree and when I try to edit them using the IDD a traceback log is created and CREO shuts down.

I've never encountered this problem before and would be extrememly greatfull if someone could point me in the right direction.

Creo doesn't like the Solidworks model(s) and I would recommend importing them as STEP files.

The error message and traceback logs are a common way that Creo crashes. This is true of any kind of crash that is about to happen.

While I agree that STEP might be the best route, if you're using Creo 2, you can install Solidworks Explorer free from the Solidworks web site. You will be able to open native Solidworks parts and assemblies which pretty much gives you what you would have received as a parasolid import.

I've had pretty good success with this. It might be better to have Creo interpret the Solidworks file rather than have Solidworks export a Pro/E .prt file.

Wouldn't this export the same thing as what the OP received of does it maintain the history based features?

Unfortunately, no history based features. It's still an import feature. I've just found that Creo reading native formats seems much better than the others writing to an old Pro/E version. In fact, we've had much greater success with the move to Creo 2 with our CATIA translator license.

Gentlemen, many thanks for your help.

I've downloaded Solidworks explorer and will use this for any future projects Thanks Dave!. Unfortunately the models require some modifcation so access to the Model tree is required and in their current format I dont see this being possible.

BTW. I thint it works only on 32-bit version CREO.
