Laying out Flat harness

Laying out Flat harness

Is there a way to modify the end of this wire so that it's in line with the other one (red). and follows those? dots?

Also has anyone experienced manually routing a wire and once a new segment has been made it lays itself directly on top of something that has already been routed?

Flattening seems to be really tricking and annoying a lot of the times the wires won't move in the plane that I want when trying to put them right beside each other. No matter what I mess with nothing really seems to change how the segment reacts. There are also times that I use the move segment tool and if i move it to far from the original position the segment disappears and the segment in the model tree goes red and I can't undo it I have to flattened that segment again.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this as its really frustrating to deal with.

Hi,

It might help if we knew the logical diagram of the cable you are trying to do.., something as shown below...

Normally when routing wires and cables

  • The cables and wires can go through each other and overlap... unless you use networks. You can share the same network for multiple cables (each have their own part number).  With networks the wires and cables will follow each other quite nicely (less crossovers and overlaps).
  • Usually flattening is straight forward if you have e.g. a simple cable with 2 connectors and 2 wires between those connectors. Flattening works fairly good even for complex cables as long as the network is well defined (but you wouldn't want to manually route complex cables without a logical file).
  • And yes, sometimes, especially when the network is not well done, moving some segment breaks the flat diagram (segment disappears and the navigation tree shows red errors). Easiest way to fix is to delete everything and flatten again (since I don't have the skill to fix partially corrupted flat diagrams). It would be nice to know why this happens...haven't had time to figure it out myself.

Your flat diagram didn't show any connectors?
