For current UI, need click a lots of menu to designate one component. If there are a lots of components is required to designate, it will be much difficult task for engineer.
menu manager style is very old now. Dashboard is fashion!
PTC released Pro/ENGINEER 2001 with menu manager in 2000.
then release develop Wildfire 2.0 - 5.0 to switch to dashboard style in past ten years.
In 2011 release Creo to switch to office Ribbon style, but in Creo 2.0 there are a lots of commands still in menu manager style. It seems PTC don't care MCAD market at all, and now just as a follower after Other competitors, for example Solidworks, NX and CATIA, but focus Windchill market.
