Move" Insert Here" Line
I am not able to drag up the green line at the bottom of an assembly tree or part features. Nor am I able to drag independent features or parts up or down a tree. I can see the "hand" when I put the pointer on the line, when I left-click the mouse the hand closes, but if I want to drag it, a red stop sign (red circle with line across) appears.
Anyone an idea why this is happening? I can use the "Insert Here" option, but dragging the line is much simpler.
thank you!
Norman

Hi,
if you uninstall Creo then installation directories are removed, only. Directories and files created by Creo session are not removed. Therefore clean install find them again,

Did you try closing and restarting Creo? I have had this happen to me before and there is a bug that causes it. I haven't been able to specifically track down the sequence of events that causes it to happen in order to submit a SPR but when it happens to me I immediately save and close as I have found it can precipitate Creo crashing.

Hi Chris, thank you for your response. I have tried closing and restarting Creo with no success. Also a full system restart was no help.

Is it specific to one assembly or all assemblies? Do you have something activated in that assembly (say like the cable module) that makes it so you are not in assembly mode? Can you assemble components? Are you trying to drag up in between suppressed components / features?

It happens in all assemblies and parts.

Hi,
create simple test assembly containing several parts. Then try drag the green line up and down. This enables you to find out whether the problem is related to your real assembly -OR- whether it is Creo bug.

The only other thing that comes to mind is maybe you aren't grabbing the right license. What version of Creo are you using and what license do you have?
file-> Help -> System Information
There should be a line for version and a line for License Name.

I'm running Creo 8.0.3.0
I can access Creo Parametric and Simulation Live licenses. They both have the same issue. I have always been able to do this, and my colleagues can do it. I will remove and reinstall Creo. Maybe that helps.
Creating a new assembly with components shows the same issue.
- Chapters
- descriptions off, selected
- captions settings, opens captions settings dialog
- captions off, selected
This is a modal window.
Beginning of dialog window. Escape will cancel and close the window.
End of dialog window.

Hi,
model tree shown in your video tells us that your Creo is connected to Windchill. Please test Creo not connected to Windchill. Maybe it is forbidden to change assembly structure in model tree, when Creo is connected to Windchill - you can ask PTC Support.
Also you can try "remove" Creo settings temporarily:
- if PTC_WF_ROOT variable is set then move the contents of %PTC_WF_ROOT% directory into another empty directory
- if PTC_WF_ROOT variable is NOT set then move the contents of %APPDATA%\PTC directory into another empty directory

Hi Martin,
Tried disconnecting to Windchill, still did not work. Did a complete clean installation, still did not work.
Will raise a ticket with out global IT, maybe they have a solution, otherwise will create a ticket with PTC Support.
If I find the solution I will post it here.
Thanks everyone!

Hi,
it looks like you did not try following tip ...

Hi,
Could not find any directory named PTC_WF_ROOT, so I emptied directory %APPDATA%\PTC.
No change.

Hi,
INFO: PTC_WF_ROOT is environment variable you can set in parametric.psf file.
Last tip ... login as different user on your PC and do a test.

Do you know where I can find those directories that are not removed? Or how to remove them?

The issue was solved on my computer. The global IT department resolved this issue by making a clean install of Creo. Also all updates, including updates to the video card, were made.
I hope this helps.

Do you have suppressed items in the model. The insert bar will not move to after or in-between suppressed items. It will display the "stop" icon until you drag to a place where it can be placed.
There is always more to learn in Creo.

Anyone that is encountering this should open a ticket with PTC support. Please provide any updates here in the community once support is working on it.

Norman,
For you and anyone else in this thread. I use Dell monitors and the "Dell Display Manager" was causing the issue. The app has been uninstalled and everything works properly again. This was after a complete uninstall and clean install of Creo.

Nick,
Thank you for your reply. We also use Dell displays, maybe that was the issue. I will let IT know about this.
Thanks,

Thank you very much, I have been trying to fix this issue for 2-3 weeks and couldn't find a solution for it. Uninstalling "Dell Display Manager" Fixed the issue immediately!!
Even though, this bug not from CREO, I wish if CREO, PTC address this in the Help Center documentation as a side note for people who may face an issue like this.

Try renaming creo_parametric_customization.ui in your "start in" directory (default working directory) before starting Creo.
There is always more to learn in Creo.
