Multi-body derived parts unable to get mass properties in part or assembly mode

I am using Creo Parametric 7.0 7.0.2.0

I used a multi-body part to create individual part file geometries. In the multi-body part, I changed all of the bodies to construction bodies. I assembled the multi-body part I used to create the individual parts into the assembly so I can use the datum planes in that multi-body part to assemble duplicate individual part files I created from that multi-body part so I did not need to duplicate the datum plane structure in the assembly, and I would need to update in both places if the structure or dimensions changed. Since the multi-body parts are construction bodies, they will not influence the real assemblies individual part files or the assembly items like mass properties and can easily hide the multi-body part. The individual part files derived from the multi-body parts allow me to assign material properties to them but when I try to get mass properties of the individual part under analysis it is greyed out. Also, all the derived multi-body parts in the assembly when I request for an assembly mass are not figured into the mass calculation and I get a bunch of stars in the columns for the components except ones that were not derived from the multi-body parts.

This is not a complete listing of the mass property output but it shows the multi-body parts vs regular created and assembled parts. I even try setting the multi-bodies to not construction bodies but still get the excluded mass properties

Can you provide an example of one of the derived parts created from the master model to troubleshoot? if you post an example of the multibody master and a derived part that will enable investigating the problem. It is hard to determine a root cause from the provided data,

I think the issue is with your use of construction bodies in the master model.

Construction body documentation

This body does not participate in mass properties calculations and other analyses like interference analysis or collision detection. Setting a body to construction is reversible.

 

I did quick test in Creo 7.0.6.0. The steps I used are as follows:

 

Created a master model with two bodies

Each body was set to be a construction body

Assigned a material to each of these bodies in the master model

Create a part using each body from within the master model

Open each derivative models and verify that the material assignments from the master model propagate with into the derivative models

Analyze mass properties in the derivative part. When using solid geometry option in the analysis zero mass is reported. This is consistent with documentation for construction bodies which are excluded from mass properties calculations.

 

If you use the "unset as construction" for each body in the master model you should find that they are then included in mass property calculations in both part and assembly mode. This was confirmed in my testing.
