In this case, i think that you are better off on 64bit XP with WF3.0.
I have been unimpressed with the performance (or lack thereof) of wf5.0 on 64 bit Win 7. Not sure if Win7 is the main culprit or not as we upgraded OS, CAD and hardware allat the same time.
It is frustrating when performance on old hardware seems to be superior to performance on new hw due to lousy OS and software updates.
as far ascapabilites of Wf3.0 to 50...wf 5.0 does not offer many competive advantages in my opinion.
Your are better off where you are at..
oh yea, WF5.0 does not play well with Window& unless you revert back to a windows classic theme too...
Systems people,
Currently our setup is to use WF3.0 with windows XP 64 bit machines and
our own PDM. Because of updating etc. we are considering migrating to
WF5.0 (still can't get used to the Creo Thingy) and to use WINDOWS 7
operating system. It'll still be 64 bit but we'll also update to IE8.0
and Microsoft Office 2010. Yeah I know, it's about time but that's the
way it is. My question is - whilst appreciating all the advantages, -
has anyone seen any disadvantages to this change. We really want ProE to
work well as this is the productivity software but any other comments
would also be welcome.

If it were me, I would go to WF4 rather than WF5. The awful drawing ribbon interface implementation in WF5 is a total job stopper for me. As others have said, you have to switch off all the eye candy junk in Win7 "Aero" interface to get Pro/E to run decently (any release). There is a button hidden deep in the bowels of Win7 config screens that says OPTIMIZE FOR BEST PERFORMANCE. Push it. All the junk goes away and Pro/E runs & looks much better.
At least you are going to Office 2010. The morons that pass for IT professionals here decided to go to Office 2007 (in 2011?!?!) which has a totally brain dead ribbon interface too. In Office 2010 you can customize it and make it almost as good as Office 2000.
