Parametric model

Hello, I'm currently doing some parametric models/library models and I would like to know if there is any possibility of making a parametric model as it's done through relations and family tables but with downloaded step files. Because some of the models are pretty complicated and it would take a lot of time to make them as I want to, is there any shortcut for that? I read something about putting them all in one assembly and then creating a library from that but I'm not sure about it.

Thanks for that clarification, I now understand what you are trying to do. I have only done this with ECAD/MCAD library parts, and that situation is a bit different since it employs the use of a mapping file to assign library models to specific part numbers. The mapping file is used to pull the correct model from a common library based on the parameters defined in either the ECAD or MCAD software for components added to the design space and is completely automated when done correctly. A single library part model could represent an unlimited quantity of company part #s in this paradigm. There may be a way to map your company part numbers to a specific Creo model using Windchill. I am not an SME on what is possible with Windchill.

I am not aware of any shortcut to generate parametric models with design intent from importing a neutral file format. A person can do this of course but I have not seen an application that is capable of this on models of anything but trivial complexity. You can use flexible modeling features to quickly edit import geometry and that may reduce the time it takes to get what you need. Your reference to the use of an assembly to define library parts is not something I have seen before.

Yeah, I understand that, but maybe I'll explain a little bit more. I am making a library on pneumatic fittings for our company and they can be obviously downloaded all from the manufacturer, even as the CREO model, I'm okay with making parametric models of the easy ones through relations as its easier to work with them in the windchill library, but for the complicated one as angular or with more pipes, it would take me forever to make the, as the variety is huge. So the question is, if I can somehow lets say download all of the versions of the fitting from the manufacturer as a creo part and then compress them into one part as generic model, meaning if ill look for it in the library it will be lets say NAME_xxx_yyy depending on the other parameters. So one can chose like that and not to search for a specific one through a windchill.
