Hi Brian,
I am pretty sure your default behaviour is controlled in the File/Drawing
Options in your drawing which in turn was propagated by the template used to
make that drawing. If you want to control default behaviour you will need
to search the correct command and change it. (I don't know what it is as it
was set up a long time ago for us)

If however you just want to make it on the other side for one or two places
in your drawing then have a look at the dimension when you select it. You
will see little drag boxes show up on the dimension. The one you want is at
the right hand end of the text and if you select this you should be able to
drag the text and elbow across to the other side.

Hope this helps.
