I am working on cap and housing snap fit. I want to increase the length of the cap by 20mm. With this change, I want to have a robust fit between cap and housing with a consideration that the removal force is less than 25N. Does increasing the number of highlighted feature in the first image from 2 to 3 help? Any other suggestions are welcome. I am attaching the cap and housing files with a hope to get help from the community.
It looks like a design for a removable annular snap fit. Do a web search on the web for design of plastic snap fits and look for an old design guide from BASF that has a section for the design of annular snaps (the PDF is available from multiple links). You can estimate the assembly/removal force with some hand calcs and nomographs from the design guide. Increasing the length of the cap would have a negligible effect. If you design these snaps often then consider building a design wizard in Creo so you can copy/paste the features based on inputs/calcs all done in Creo updating the model reference geometry for the snap features.
