Start parts and template locations

Hi,

I am new to Creo and have a few questions on how to best configure the software. We've purchased two seats of Creo parametric 4.0, I would like to store start parts in a location that both myself and our other designer can access along with mapping Creo to look for them. How do I best approach this?

Thank you in advance.

I would create a shared drive location on one of the computers and then map it to another drive lettter, like P: or X:. Create a folder on that drive named Templates and store your templates and formats in that folder. To protect the contents from being changed, make the folder read-only.

Then how do you configure Creo to look to that folder?

There are config.pro settings to point to templates and start part folders.

Here is an example from another company's config.pro. They mapped the S: drive as their shared location.

Do you know why the following line is commented out (i.e.   !)

I am thinking it was commented out so we didn't 'force' a model tree config on the users. Let them define their own in their personnel config.pro or use the default system model tree view.

Use this config.pro file option to set the start model folder.  It should be set to the full path to the folder.

start_model_dir

Additionally, you can set these options to specific template files that you want to use:

template_designasm
template_sheetmetalpart
template_solidpart

BTW, this area is for questions about the community itself.  Questions like this really beling in https://community.ptc.com/t5/Additional-Creo-Questions/bd-p/OtherCreoTopics probably under the "Best Practices" or "Customization" labels.

@Jaime_Lee, can you move it?
