The overall "trend" from the responses is many use Shaded drawings views to communicate visual clarity to subsequent downstream activities. Activities such as assembly clarification, ease of part manufacture (I.E. a picture is worth a 1000 words), communicating surface finish visually and just as a "nicety" for the shop floor.
It appears there is indeed value for shaded views in varying forms.
