Pro Gurus,

Thank you all for your response.

By reading your suggestions, it makes a lot of sense now. Since the merge
feature is affected only one way, any change to the machined won't reflect
on the casting. Both method described below is similar.

Have a great week-end.

Frank.

Frank, we do all out cast/mach as merge models. The trick we use to fool
Pro/E and allow the same names to be created in the machining and casting
models is to have both your cast part and mach part in session, go into your
cast pat, rename the datums to some random name(A_cast for example), go into
the mach rename your datums, go back into your casting and name the datums
back to your desired names, regen everything and save. It is a pain but
gets the job done.

-------------- 2 ----------------

1) creat datums at the casting level (ex A) and save the casting (you wil be
reverting back to this file)
2) rename the datums in the casting level to something else (ex A becomes
AA)
3) create datums in the machined part (ex A) and save the machined file
this will also save the casting file with AA datum
4) delete the saved casting file with the AA datum
5) erase from session and open the casting file from step 1 and the latest
machine file saved
