I have played around with Freestyle for a bit as well but never taken to that level.
Did you only use pictorial reference (trace sketch) or also some sort of parametric datum reference?

I have created the main body shape based on imported geometry (I have used the Merge/Inheritance heature) + Freestyle feature.

A the end of this model I have use a few projected curves and Boundary blend feature - try to check/download my model here: https://grabcad.com/library/k-4k-1
