Two parts beat as one?

I have two parts that mate & weld & thus could be analyzed (by mechanica) as one part. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to constrain one part, so I'd just as soon make them one single part (they are the same material, too.) Is there a way to merge two parts in an assembly into one part? A collegue of mine said all he could think of is to export to IGES & re-open. I think there's gotta be a better way... Am I right?

Kieran Using the component merge operation might be what you are looking for. Within the assembly, select Edit->Component Operations->Merge Hugo
