Z-Radius dimension

Z-Radius dimension

Hi all,

does anyone know why i cannot manipulate a Z-radius dimension once its been created? According to the help files you should be able to change the shape of the dimension via drag handles. I am using Creo 2.

Regards

John

It is a little counter intuative but you have to edit the attachment.

Highlight the dim, right click and either Edit Attachment or Properties/Edit Attach.

You now reclick the feature for the dimension and then the representative center point.

The 1st click on the feature is where the arrow remains.

Using Properties, you can also Move Text with limited freedom.

Hi Antonius,

yes, i realize i can do as you describe, but it does not give you control over the shape of the Z, in Wildfire 5 & all earlier versions you could just simply drag the whole dimension around until you had the required shape. What i don't understand is why the help files suggest that you can manipulate the Z-radius dimension using drag handles. Look for yourself.

Sorry but just trying to help get the job done. I agree that functionality was again lost yet I see some logic in it. I too prefer to have the drag handles back for edit mode at least.

This is yet another case of poor help documentation as well. They simply never updated the help files when they "enhanced" the functionality.

Have you reported this to customer support?

I tried to use it as well, didn't seem to work very well. I fudged a note instead.

Hi Frank,

it does not work at all. The only thing i appear to be able to do, is slide the text back & forth along the leader line. This is just another example of how to make a change for the sake of making a change & then having the cheek to call it an enhancement. Like so many things in drawing mode, it worked fine in Wildfire, now it doesn't work at all or works poorly with twice as many mouse clicks required. I know you have issues with the ribbon, for me, i can live with it, but i hate with a passion the changes that have been made to drawing mode.

At the end of the day, my role here is to provide the shop with an accurate, detailed drawing of the tooling we make, we are light years from just working with 3d models only, & i just feel that job has been made harder than it needs to be, with all these pointless so called enhancements that hinder workflow not increase it.

At risk of a) going off topic and b) fuelling a rant, this sort of thing has been going on for ages.

Here are two other little bits of lost functionality:

  • Ability to align two angular dimensions, for instance around a pitch circle. Now you can only do it by eye.
  • Size both witness lines of a dimension together, by selecting one but then dragging the other. Now, you can size all witness lines of two or more dimensions (and you have no choice over this if they're all selected) - but not both of a single dim.

But.....they're "enhancements", Right?

Actually Jonathan, you can highlight multiple dimensions, right-click to get the pop-up menu, then pick: "Clip witness Lines" and then query select (if they're colinear) any that you want to change. I think this is what you want. I turn off pre-selection highlighting (hate it), and see a lot of people picking bad references because they don't use the old query-select.

My cynical suspicion is that they're quietly removing features, so that they can "introduce" them in a future version with full fanfare...

And no, query-selecting (yes, we disabled PSH too) just leaves me with one witness line changing. I can change all four witness lines of two dimensions together, but not both of a single dim.

Hmmmm, I can select both via the method I mentioned. Now, if only I could actually SHOW the f^%^$%^ing dimensions. All I get is the WRONG dimensions or the error that there aren't any that can be shown. Complete c*@p. I HATE creo......

hi John,

Similar problem in drawings shows up when you try to move the pointers of BOM balloons on views of assembly drawings.

My advice is to make a mapkey containing RMB --> Edit Attachment. You can tackle bunch of stuff with that mapkey at least in drawings. I am not sure but it should also work with annotations on part level.

So you simply select what you want to edit (with PSH disable of course) and hit this mapkey and move it as you were using drag handles.

I also recommend similar mapkeys to insert jogs, align dims, etc. With these mapkeys dimensioning of a drawing isn't so much pain, even with the ribbon and the right tab selection requirement nonsense.
