.prt file compatibility across various versions of Creo and Wildfire.

.prt file compatibility across various versions of Creo and Wildfire.

I have the impression that a newer version of Creo / Wildfire can always read a prt file from an older version.  What about the other direction.

I am using Creo Parametric 3.0 and 4.0.  Now I need to share a design with someone using Wildfire 5.  I do not see any options under File  / Save As / Save A Copy to specify an older version of a .prt file.  Can Wildfire 5 read a .prt file from Creo Parametric 3.0 or 4.0?

It would be helpful to have a general overview for sharing data from a newer version with an older version for all file types including at least .asm and drw.  Is this available somewhere?

Thanks

Hi,

Save in older version format command does not exist.

To open "new" models in "older" ProE/Creo version, you have to apply Granite Cross Release Interoperability (GCRI) technique.

Hi

Thanks for the fast response.

In the first link you sent there is table like this for "Granite Cross Release Interopera

Since there is no entry for the case of Creo 3.0 source to Wildfire 4.0, does this mean that GCRI does not work in this case ?

Thanks

Hi,

I am sorry, I do not know all GCRI rules. You have to try this functionality by yourself .

My understanding is that GCRI only supports 3 versions back, so WF 4 would not be supported for Creo3. PTC has to create a new GCRI for every new version of Creo and the corresponding back versions that will be able to import the newer files. This is why there is limited backward support.

If you need to go back to WF4 AND you have Creo1, load the Creo 3 file into Creo 1, save the file, then import that file into WF4. Your other option would be to export a STEP file and import that into WF4.

Thanks to everyone who replied and for the useful information.

My conclusion is that it is not readily possible to export prt files from Creo Parametric 3.0 or 4.0 to Wildfire 4.  I have reverted to exchanging data with the other party (a machine shop) using STEP files which does work (without the parametric information of course) but that is good enough for my present needs.
