setting mass by family table

Hi alls,



I would like to set a part mass with a family table parameter.

Is it possible and how?

My aim is :

- To display it in bom and drawings (I can use a parameter with any
kind of name like ''my_own_mass''.)

- To use it within MDO for gravity action

- To use it with Mechanica, for calculate gravity effort

So, a personal parameter will not do all of this and seems to be not
sufficient.

I would like to know if it's possible to force total mass of a part and how.

Why not have material files for each material the part(s) may be made of, add them to the list of materials in the part model genericand set which material file is considered assigned to the instances by adding the material to the family table & setting it in the table? That way the mass is always calculated based on the geometry & material fileand is correct as changes are made to the model(provided you set mass_property_calculate to automatic or are sure to manually force a recalculation after changes).

Actually, this is the best way to manage materials, densities, etc.
What is really useful is that when you have several material files
included in the part model, not only can you family table them, but on
the parameters dialog, you can pick them from a list box drop-down,
rather than having to go into the part properties dialog under
file/properties/

This may not be the best way but this is how we do this type of thing. We then use the Mass, Volume and x_sec_area in drawing notes. Use this a lot for extrusion and plastic parts.
