Summary: PTC: Worst site in History

Hello again Pro/Users

I am posting the Summary to my original thread on the Pro-User section. I
did not realize the original thread went out on the system-managment
section.

I am sure I would have received many more replies from this section than
the system-management section, but I think I accomplished what I wanted
from the thread anyway.

Quick update for those who did not receive it in the system-management
section:

I believe PTC has a terrible site. There. That's about it.

Now for the summary:

99% of the replies agree with me on my point. Let me clear one thing up
first. My complaint surrounded the difficulties in finding PTC University
but I was only using this as an example of why PTC's site is badly
designed. The problem extends to many other areas of the site. My current
difficulties had to do with PTC University, so I focused on that to make a
point. So please quick sending emails with the Direct Link to PTC-U. I
know the direct link. The problem is that if you had to search for it on
the site without knowing the direct link, it will take allot of work and
guessing to find it. Like I said 99% of the replies agreed with me.

I will post some of the replies, but not all of them. Many of them where
basically the same. There where many great users who pointed out where to
find the PTC University Question and Answer Section and the funny thing was
that no where in that section did it tell you how to find PTC University.
This just proved my point even more. I currently purchased a class and
simply wanted to find the University on PTC's site to take my class. This
was next to impossible because I did not know where to look at the time.
My VAR sent me an email with the direct link, but that was several weeks
ago and I did not book mark it. NO BIG DEAL. All I need to do is go to
the PTC site and find the University and I can start my class. As most of
the respondents agree. This is not easy at all. In fact, most of the
replies did not find the PTC University by searching the site.

Some users figured out that if you go to the eLearning section and list all
the classes available for eLearning, that you can choose a class and it
will take you to PTC University. Again, my point is that it's not easy to
find. I was not looking for eLearning, I was looking for PTC University.
I already know what class I have paid for and simply need to access the
University and can't figure out where it is. Ultimately if you did click
on any of the classes you where not interested in, it would have taken you
to PTC University which will allow you to log in and see the classes you
did pay for. Not intuitive at all.

Again, this is not about PTC University, it's about the PTC site and the
difficulty to find anything on it. Some things are easy to find and
straight forward, others are very difficult and at times seem impossible.
Just try to find a list of features that Wildfire 2.0 can do as a software
package. They don't have it. Normally a company that sells software will
list it's functionality. Not here....

As a side note, I did take my PTC University class yesterday and it was
Excellent. The content and the overall experience of taking a class was
Awesome. I really enjoyed the way it was presented and covered.

Here are the Summaries: My favorite of them all and I must point it out.
One user actually went to Google and searched for PTC University and found
the direct link to it. If you search in the PTC Website, you won't find
the direct link. A Perfect example of a badly made site. I love that one.

One user believed that my thread was not constructive. What is the
exploder for? For users to help each other and for PTC to hear what their
user community thinks. PTC monitors the exploders and this is the place to
chat about things the Users feel needs to be improved. I was seeking help.
WHERE IS PTC UNIVERSITY. But I was also proving a point that most users
(99%) of the replies agree with me that PTC needs to Overhaul their site
and make it a good experience. If I was looking for software to run my
company and ran into PTC's Site. I don't think I would have ever figured
out what Wildfire 2.0 can do or can't do. So for that one User that
believes my thread was not constructive, I would just have to say. This is
what the exploder is for. Users helping users and get the word out to PTC
on what we want.

I have used Pro/Engineer for over 11 years and think it's one of the best
software packages I have ever used. I think PTC is on track with the GUI
changes, there direction for the software in the future and PTC as a
company. Just wanted to clear that up.

Have we heard from PTC on this yet? They are usually pretty good
about contributing to PTC/User lists..

I think saying PTC.com is the worst site is going too far.

There are specific problems with ptc.com - there are not enough tips and
tricks - the site search is a bit useless - webcasts aren't convenient for
users in the UK and you cannot find an exact breakdown of funcionality in
each module.

Where PTC.com really shines is the technical support, finding and tracking
problems works really well. There are a lot of software websites that do
not have this type of facility.
The other excellent facility is the licence management facilities. Other
companies make you ring up and queue in a telephone system and then if your
lucky, get a result within 2-3 days, with PTC I have email within 10
minutes.

I agree PTC need to improve the website but there are many worse websites
which have flashy graphics but no real content, and no useful
functionality.
