Center of projected cross-sectional area

Hey Pro/Users!

I have a big problem. Everyoneat mywork thinks I know the Pro/smartguy module. I have been faking by using the PTC/User module instead... Add to this problem that we are still in Pro/E 2001.

Problem: We need to find the coordinates for the center of pressure on our air vehicle.

It sounds a lot tougher than it is... All it really means is that I need the 2D cross-section of our air vehicle and then find the center of area.

The plot thickens...

Pro/E has a built in analysis function that gives you the center of area called "X-Section Mass Properties" That is so close to what I need it is silly!

The problem is that I need the X-sectional mass of the Profile. I need to Project the cross-section not take a real cross-section...

For a real cross-section of a pipe profile, you would see two thin lines that would look like the cut area if you cut a pipe in two. I need a projected cross section. Same pipe would look like a side view instead of a cross section... (big rectangle with pipe's dimensions instead of two thinlines that make up the pipe wall) The equivalent would be that I need all equipment that is not on the buttline to be projected onto the buttline. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Frederick Burke

What about making a seperate part and projecting the silhouette of your air vehicle onto it. Use the outline to do an extrusion. Then the center of gravity of that part should be your center of pressure.
