DESIGN OF SPIRAL BEVEL GEAR

Hi Ppl I’m Karthik , Student doing my Mechanical Engineering from BITS PILANI , India . I have been assigned my final semester Project on “Design of Spiral Bevel Gear using Pro/E with the following Inputs Gear N = 60 Pinion n = 12 Diametrical Pitch = 48 Shaft Angle = 90 Spiral helix angle = 35 Pressure Angle = 20 I have calculated all the Dimensions by table 34.4, Standard Handbook of Machine Design using “Formulae for Computing Blank and Tooth dimensions. I have no idea how to proceed from this Point with all the Calculations on hand. From this point to complete my project, any sort of help is highly welcome.I sincerely request for a reply because I have no idea whom to contact ahead of this forum for Pro E help,Is there is any privacy required to reply me the information please mail it to - or -

Hi Karthik, There are 2 ways I might tackle this, but without considerable experience or on hand help it will be difficult for you to do. Firstly you could model the gears as non-spiral, then introduce a warp feature to acheive the spiral. Secondly you could use a projected or wrapped curve onto the plain gear/pinion and use this projected curve for the trajectory of a swept cut, then pattern this 60 and 12 etc. As I said, both are difficult if you don't much experience. Good luck, Mike

Hi Karthik, Bevel gears are a bit tough and challenging but it's a good project for an intern. You may want to look at these links: http://gtrebaol.free.fr/doc/catia/bevel_gear.html http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Drive/Bevel_Gears.html Good Luck to you. Jean
