Ok, I am trying to make a Family Table with 3 Dimensions as variables. My problem has been the speed at which the Part Family has operated. Is there a way to make Family Tables in such a way that Pro/e does not compute the variations unless you open that variation (like a function only giving you a value when you enter numbers). Unfortunately it seems that Pro/e wants to make a list of all of the combinations (like storing all of the possible solutions to a formula in a matrix…). Here is a description of what I have tried to do with an L shaped pin mount: Length Min=65mm Max=152mm 1mm increments Height Min=46mm Max=127mm 1mm increments Diameter 6mm 8mm 10mm 12mm I have tried to enter this into Pro/e in multiple ways, the first was to use Edit>Copy With Increments. I was going to then modify the names in Excel with =CONCATENATE("AT-PB1-A",B2,"-B",C2,"-C",D2,"") But Pro/e was unable to process all of the combinations and it crashed on me halfway through (10-15 min). I repeated the process several times. I then figured out a way in which to make it on Excel (A slightly more tedious process was required to figure out how to create each possible combination). But after working out the details I dragged the format down 29,000 rows and bam, I had what I needed. I thought that by using Excel I could avoid the crashing problem I experienced in the previous attempt. Well... it didn’t crash, but it took 25 minutes or so to upload it back to Pro/e. Then 10 minutes to exit the Family Table window. Finally 30 minutes to save the file… This would have been worth the time, but, when I opened the file after restarting Pro/e, it took 30 seconds for the Parts Table to appear and 30 more seconds to actually open the one I wanted (80, 60, 6). I thought that still wasn’t all that bad, but when I tried to save the file thinking that it would just save this single instance... Wrong, the file was taking just as long to save as the main file... The computer is not the problem, 3.4 GHz, 2 Gigs RAM, 512MB video card. Besides that, why should it take 25 Minutes to process something that only took Excel 2 seconds to compute??? There has to be a setting somewhere that does not give you a list of parts, but simply ask you for the inputs for the part you want. This feature is included, but it is merely used as a search feature for the list… Thanks, Michael Dunn AutoTool Plain City, OH
