Better error message for check-out conflict in simultaneous access situation

Better error message for check-out conflict in simultaneous access situation

Can the error message "The selected document ‘tite##### (BDAmap) {x-wc://file=#####.xml}’ could not be checked out" be improved to indicate to two users to synchronize their workspace in Windchill PDMLink 10.1 ?
Description
  • A topic document is used by two users in simultaneous.
  • The second user checks-in the document before the user A
  • No message are returned to the users, indicating that they have to synchronize their workspace.
  • When the user A tries to check out the document an error message has thrown:
"The selected document ‘tite##### (BDAmap) {x-wc://file=#####.xml}’ could not be checked out"

  • Can this kind of message be improved with indicating to synchronize the workspace before checking out ?
Applies To
  • Windchill PDMLink 10.0, 10.1, 10.2 all datecodes
  • Arbortext Editor 6.0, 6.1 all datecodes

The current error message leaves users in speculative situations. It would be better if I user would receive an error message like: Please update your workspace. OR : The object is already checked out by User XYZ...

Event better there was an active push information to refresh the workspace state if documents geht checked out in commonspace - but this idea seams to be an performance issue. So I would be happy with a better error message, which gives the user the chance of doing the correct next step.

This idea was discussed with Support / Develepment in Case 11854996, SPR  2217818, CS166806 (a similar case in SPR 1193531).
