Community Tip - When posting, your subject should be specific and summarize your question. Here are some additional tips on asking a great question. X

Cache images that PE uses for subsequent publishes

Cache images that PE uses for subsequent publishes

1. Describe your environment: What is your industry? What is your role in your organization? Describe your stakeholders.
Manufacturing

2. What product and version are you currently running?
Editor/PE  8.1.1.0
Isodraw 7.3 M110
3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.

Publishing to pdf takes a long time when using CGMS. PE converts them each time we publish a pdf.

4. What is the use case for your organization?
We publish all the time using a mixture of cgms and pdfs.

5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?
Major time savings. When we started with print composer and the SMA application it used to cache the images and with subsequent publishes would only convert any new images. Once we upgraded to PE and TIA, publish times have increased greatly. All of our 500 page manuals take over 1 hr to publish, with some technical manuals taking up to 7 hours.

This idea summarizes exactly what our scenario/issue is. We run into this problem with quite a few of our documents.

Caching these would dramatically improve our process.

The next issue is file size using CGMS and the built in pdf creation software. We have to create PS files then distill to get useful sized pdfs.

@bfriesen we found a similar problem with TIFF files recently too. The built-in PDFlib driver is not compressing images as it should. As you say, the PDF file size needs to be as small as possible.
