Arbortext 5.2 downloads

How has the Windows base install for Arbortext Editor 5.2 changed now that
it's on the PTC download site?

I happened to notice the .zip has a different name and file size:

PTC download site: MED-71692-CD-052_F000_zip.zip (513 MB)

Hi Jason,

The F000 release is the initial "gold release" of a product. The Mxxx
releases are maintenance releases, generally numbered M010, M020, M030
etc. The maintenance releases are roughly equivalent to the old
Arbortext "patches", eg. 5.2 M010 == 5.2A, 5.2 M020 == 5.2B, etc.

Hope that helps clarify - perhaps John Dreystadt or PG Bartlett can
provide a more detailed explanation of the scheme.

As for the difference in file sizes - the 513MB file is a CD image of
the full release. It does not include Windchill or any other PTC
product, just the Arbortext products. The patches are meant to be
installed "over the top" of a full release, just like in the good old
Arbortext days 🙂

Cheers,
Gareth

Everything Gareth said is right.

The PTC site has the entire CD as a single download while the Arbortext
site had the Windows and Solaris downloads available separately.

Maintenance releases, patch releases and double-dot releases (e.g.,
5.2.1) are now all named with the "M" label such as 5.2 M010 (which
would be pronounced "five point two em ten" or "em ten" for short). You
install these releases on top of the F000 release or any M release that
came out afterwards.

Regularly-scheduled (every 2 months) maintenance releases are
incremented by 10, so our product calendar lists M010, M020, M030, etc.
Maintenance releases always include bug fixes and sometimes add new
features.

If special-purpose maintenance releases are required, we'll use the
numbers in between. For example, there's an M011 patch release in the
works that's targeted specifically to customers planning to install the
1.2 release of our SPL application.
