Arbortext Epic Spell Check

Some of our users have been complaining about the spell check in Epic (we curently use version 5.1). Specific comments are: "I think generally it does not perform as smoothly as MS Word in terms of offering correct alternative spellings. There's also no context/grammer extensions. The main result of this is that some editors continue to copy-and-paste into MS Word for a more thorough spell check." I was therefore wondering whether: - there are any specific improvements in spell checking between our version and the current version - it is possible to somehow plug in an improved module (I suspect this is unlikely) - PTC has any plans to develop improvments in this area

Chris, Version 5.1 is over 2 years old so there has been general improvements to the software since then and this will continue. You can create your own shareable dictionary file, if you can download 5.3 and use the Help Center or access the Help Center in the Support area of the main ptc.com website do a search on the word dictionary and you will find a lot of information. We can also integrate to a number of other applications which help with consistency of content e.g. Author Assistant from SDL or Acrocheck from Acrolinx, but I'm sure there are more out there. Pete

Peter's right. It's been greatly improved since 5.1. In 5.4, it will detect missing spaces between words around tag boundaries. For example:

<b>here's bold text</b>this is not bold.

There's technically no space between the words "text" and "this", but the <b> close tag hides it. Arbortext 5.4 recognizes this as a misspelling.
