Epic not printing EPS graphics (followup)

Just as an FYI for those interested.

I filed a bug report with PTC on my Epic not printing EPS graphics in my
PDF. Using only print composer with Epic 6.1 M010.

PTC did duplicate the problem in M010 but when they tested with M020 (to be
released later this month), things were working again.

So if you are using Epic Editor 6.1 M010 and publishing to PDF with print
composer with EPS graphics, you may have a problem. I'll let you know if
M020 fixes the problem for me when it is released.

Hi,

Did this get resolved? I am using AE 6.1 M030 and need to include a bunch of .eps format hazard icons. They do not show up in the Editor window, nor do they print when I preview or compose to PDF. Is there a trick to using eps files with Editor? I've never actually had to use this format before. Always had tiff, gif, or cgm files to work with before.

Thanks,

Kim

Hi Kim,

We preferentially use .eps files with Editor and Publishing Engine. As far
as I can remember, we don't do anything special to get them to work ...
they just do. There might be something about how an .eps is created that
will cause it to not display within Editor ... I think the authoring
software must create a preview or something. (That may also interact with
an Editor setting where Editor will display it even without a preview but
with a cost in performance ... but I'm blathering on from memory so don't
hold me to this.)

Again, not speaking from direct experience ... just thinking this through.
Is it possible you are using a very recent version of .eps? Can you back
save to some older (much much older) version of .eps from your authoring
application? Maybe Editor doesn't speak the latest version.

I trust you've viewed / printed these .eps files in some other software to
confirm there isn't something wrong with them.

How are you creating the .eps files?

Kim,

To view a graphic in the Editor window, the .eps graphic must be saved to include an embedded TIFF preview. The TIFF in the Editor window may look pretty ragged but the EPS graphic will be used at composition time and be placed in the output stream.

Check the Help topic 'Inserting Graphics Overview'; if you haven't done it before, you'll need to enable graphic support in your doctype and then include the graphic in your document using either a file reference or an entity reference. Both are described in the Help information.

Hi Kim,

My experience has also been that APP works nicer if the EPS comes from
Adobe--that is, if the EPS is brought up in Acrobat (which converts it to
PDF for viewing), then resaved as EPS. Worth trying to see if it helps...
