Never did see anyone reply, and finally had a couple of minutes today, so...
In order to see the trace data, after doing "set gentexttrace=#ALL", I click the "Update Gen Text" button in the markup tool bar. Since I'm running in Architect, that causes the "Arbortext Architect FOSI Generated Text Messages" window to display, containing the trace data, along with the update of the gentext in the Architect window. Not sure what the trace data window is titled when running in Editor.
Afterward, I have to go to Tools->Preferences->Advanced to turn off my gentext (don't usually run with it 'on', because of file sizes).
Don't personally know whether it is supposed to display when you do a Compose->PDF File...
