Hidding components

I used to know how to hide components via layers and the no-pen thing, but I have forgotten how to do it. Any help out there? Thank you, -Michael

Hi Michael, in IsoDraw and IsoDraw CADprocess you can create layers as needed. Then you can select any 2D or 3D element and choose the command "selection to active layer" to move it to this layer (command can be found in the layer windows upper right corner). The eye symbol behind the layer name can be used to make this layer visible or invisible then (by clicking). Export and print can also be altered. The layer window can be found in teh window menu or be activated by pressing Shift+Ctrl+L. The manual provides some more details for this. The "no pen" is a pen that can be used to create shapes which have no pen size, i.e. thickness. You can see them only if the preview is switched OFF. The pen "No Pen" can be found within the attribute window in the pen pane. Regards, Christian

Thank you Christian, This is actually what I am looking on how to do. (see attached photo) I have this one shape that I have save into a template and I just readjust it every time... but would like to know how to redo it again for different applications.

Hi Michael, what you need is the bézier tool. You can use it to create free form shapes. On the beginning it takes a bit to get used to it, but if you can use it, it will enable you to draw the most complex shapes that you can think of. I recommend that you have a look into the documentation to see what functions it offers and I guess the PTC U also offers courses to support you. Much success! Christian

Just for archival reference I have found what I was looking for. With the 'no-pen' lines selected, (You can create these lines, either with the bézier tool as Christian suggested or even with the 'box' tool, it does not appear as though the line actually have to come to a full closure either.) you have to go to window, show fill window, click the blue block, "Fill Color", and select the color you want... most likely the white to hid items in layers, and double click it. Voila! Hidden full objects without deleting original data.
