Hotspots in Isodraw - where to start

We are looking into adding hot spots to our images used in our online parts catalog system. Currently we supply a third party with pdfs and they add hotspot info to the images they create from the pdfs. What sort of process is it to create hotspots for an illustration. We looked the PTC tutorial and all the parts are individiaul not grouped together. If you use hotspots can you still have your image linked back to the source? Our process curently is that we use jt files and place them onto the open idr file, explode and make it presentable, add callouts, export to CGM.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Any suggestions?? This has come back to me again.

Where to start is what are your requirements. By this, are these for internal use only, wholesalers, end consumers (Joe off the street?).

The reason this is important is it determines your direction.

If you go through the PTC method, it appears to work pretty slick. We did not go this route and I'll explain why momentarily).

The drawback to PTCs method is mainly the viewer. It is a plugin which means it does not work with iOS devices as well as requires anyone wishing to view your pages to download the plugin.

The approach/s we took are a couple. Originally (~10 years ago) we went with Flash. It's what was available and most computers at the time had it installed anyways.

In recent years we've switched to SVG which is supported by the HTML5 standard. IE9 and earlier don't like it but everything else, including iOS (Safari), does. Takes some custom work on the setup and for the viewer but these were minor. We still use IsoDraw to create the art as well as add the interactivity via macros that apply metadata, but we went more user friendly as we preset our catalog to anyone with an internet connection.
