How to tell where a topic is used?

Just wondering if there is a way to tell where a topic is used? Would a CMS tell us which dita maps contain certain topics, if we needed to search for a specific one.

eg If we reuse a parts list and illustration from a parts catalog in an instruction, and then update the parts list and illustration in the parts catalog, how will we know that the kit instruction also needs to be updated?

Yes a CMS would tell you that. We are currently using Arbortext Content Manager and we can see where topics and illustrations are used.
