Problem with cgms in Arbortext

Hi,

we have a problem with cgms in Arbortext. We make the drawings with CATIA and then save them to cgm. In Arbortext the drawings look fine and in the preview as well. Nevertheless, when we convert the preview into a PDF, some cgms have funny fines all over them. If we have a look on these drawings in PowerPoint, some other funny lines are shown, but with other programs the cgms look fine.

Any ideas to how we can resolve our problem?

Thanks in advance!

Monica

Are you on 5.4 or 6.0 series of Arbortext? They changed from Larson CGM renderer to IsoDraw (IsoView) renderer in 6.0.

We're still on the 5.3 series

It might be best to convert your CGMs to another format prior to publishing. We have used EPS and PDF successfully in the past. Support for CGM across different software packages is a bit flaky.

We only use CGMs with Arbortext. Which format would you recommend then?

I would try out EPS or PDF formats as a first port of call. Avoid GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP, etc. as they are rasterised (bitmap) formats which means you will lose print quality.

Another thought is try out the CGM support in later versions of Arbortext eg. 5.4 or 6.0. The problems you are experiencing may have been magically fixed. The 5.3 release of Arbortext is quite old now.

Changing to another version might be a good idea, but our workload makes it impossible for the moment. Thanks for your suggestions anyway!
