RGL: Reading grade level ?

Hi All,

We are curious to know if Adept Editor has any method of verifying the
reading grade level of the document?

We know that this is a common function of most word processors, and the
Editor is not a word processor as such, but still...?

TIA,

RGL: Reading grade level ?

Annette:

Adept Editor does not have any built-in method to verify or analyze the
reading grade level of a document.

Programs such as Flesch (sp?) are out there and available. Your and your staff
might be able to purchase a program of that nature and integrate it into ADEPT
via the command language or use it standalone on the documents you've created.
I am not aware of anyone integrating such a program into ADEPT at this time.

In years past, I installed and supported non-sgml publishing systems
(primarily for the newspaper industry) that included such an application. In
my personal experience, every site that purchased the readling level option
either used it for a short time because of the novelty or chose not to use it
because they questioned the true "reading" level. (I actually had some editors
and writers express indignation at this component because "they didn't write
at a 4th grade level!"! LOL at THAT memory). Consistently, every site would
use it for a period of two weeks to a month then abandon its use.

Regardless of my personal feelings/experience, I encourage you to investigate
this option. While my personal feeling toward such programs is cold, others
may rave about them. As a caveat, I'm not an "editorial" type person and my
forte is NOT writing! I encourage others to comment and share their experience
or ideas with Annette.

Good luck

Joe
