Working with FOSI entities

Hy,
I'm using Fosis sharing some e-i-c's, style-set definitions and counters
which are therefore declared in external files and included as entities in
the Fosi (using Epic 4.3.1.C).
Working on the Fosi itself, this causes some strange behaviour and even
more pain:
- in the e-i-c panel, I'don't have access to the style set(s) defined in
the entity when I want to add them using the context menu (no matter if the
file is read-only or not), I only see style sets defined in the fosi itself
- I can put in a style set name manually and compile the fosi, but double
klick on it does nothing
- same for counters (not available in the context menu e.g. for reset)
- In the All-style-sets / All-Elements-in-Context panel, there is no
visible distinction between stuff defined in the entities and the current
fosi. It is not possible to add new rules to the entity files.
In older versions (e.g. Adept 9), the entity stuff appeared as Entity
definition (like "&all-eic-ent;") which then could be opended with double
click and edited in a separate panel. All the other stuff worked fine as
well.

Do I miss any settings or PI's?

The current entity file for styles looks like this:

<charsubset charsubsetid="arrow-display">
<savetext textid="bullet-txt" conrule="\⇒\,@7mm">
<usetext source="bullet-txt" placemnt="before">
<subchars>
</subchars>
</usetext>
</charsubset>
....

The file for EIC:

<e-i-c gi="para">
<charlist inherit="1" charsubsetref="block" prespace"="></charlist>
</e-i-c>
...

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Yvonne,

I had the same problem with the FOSI panels after upgrading to 4.1.1. - or was it 4.2.3?

Arbortext's solution for some of the problems:

* Format Menu : Edit FOSI Tagged View
* Edit Menu in the Tagged View : Edit All Entities

This locks the entity files and you should then be able to create Counters, e-i-c's etc.

Yes you are right, you cannot see the closed entity file names in the panels anymore - that's the way it is.

Hope this helps a bit.

You can also select Find --> Find in Tagged View from the e-i-c panel, which will bring up your e-i-c in the Tagged View panel, in which you can see the entities and double-click on them.
I remember this issue when we upgraded a few years ago. Suddenly, my entities were invisible in the e-i-c panels. I just learned to live with it.

Maggie,

FOSI panel?? What are they?? You don't mean there are other ways to edit a
FOSI other than in ASCII (where's R. Lee Ermey when you need him for that
eeeaah thing?) or in tagged mode?? Well what will they think of next??
Shoot, now that the toolbars are so easy to edit nowadays, I may edit the
Edit toolbar so when I miss the File|Apply FOSI Changes and hit the Open
New button, it will do the same thing..

Lynn

Hm,
helps a bit but makes not really happy. I mean working this way is like
eating soup with a fork...

Why do they remove features which worked fine all the time???

:-))
Bye

I think they figured the soup is now chunkier and a fork will work just fine...
