dashes in tables

dashes in tables

Hello,

Normally, not in a table that is, when you type a dash from your keyboard Epic inserts a dash into the text and displays it as such. However, in a table the behavior seems to be different. When one types a dash in a table Epic does display a dash (albeit a smaller dash) but instead inserts the – at that location.

Is this an Epic bug?

Editor 5.2 cycles through emdash, endash, dash if you repeatedly press
the dash key. In a table, the cycle is inexplicably reversed. dash,
endash, emdash. At least that's how it's working for me.

We have, so far as I know, not attempted to modify dash behavior. I
seem to recall discussions about ways to change the default behavior,
but not the details of what is possible or how to achieve it.

Hmmm... maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying. If I hit the dash key three times I get three dashes. I tried Ctrl-dash (which entered a hyphen--didn't look at the back-code) and Alt-dash (nada). What am I missing?

Our doctypes are configured differently.

In 5.2 m020 help, under "Dashes, inserting in a document," you can read about the standard behavior. There is a related topic "Restricting character substitution for specific elements" that describes how to change the default behavior or restrict the processing of quotation marks and dashes via the .dcf file.

It may or may not specify why dashes behave differently in tables, but it should specify how to make Editor do what you want. If you have control over the .dcf file.
