exporting .cgm to .eps

The callouts are perfectly aligned in the .cgm file. But after export to .eps they gradually shift to the left across the page. Any ideas on fixing this problem? We are using the .eps files in our published sgml documents.

Hi Anita, this matter needs a test with test files. I recommend using the PTC call logger or to contact the PTC support and provide one or more CGM file(s) and the EPS export(s). Also a screenshot may be helpful that demonstrates the behavior you describe. My assumption is a font issue here, but let us see what the professionals at the PTC helpdesk say! As a workaround you can convert the callout text to paths, then they should not move at all. Much success, Christian

While converting the text to paths sounded like an answer to our prayers, it did not do the trick! Is there a setting or something simple we can change to get this to work? The pieces of art in question are all a combination of vector (text) and raster (the drawing).

Hi Anita, I assume that the text elements are contained in groups (i.e. are grouped probably with the leader lines, etc.). Since you mentioned that you are working with CGM, I also assume that you are not using the callout element that IsoDraw also provides. If this is the scenario, then it should work when you open the file and open the select dialog (Edit / Select...). There you choose: - from all elements - type - is equal to - text Click "Select" and close the dialog box. Now the text elements should be selected and you can apply the command "Text / Convert to paths". (If you now export to EPS and close the file without saving you still have the editable text in the file). I hope this helps, Christian

Christian, Sorry for the confusion, but I've already tried to export to .eps AFTER converting the text to paths and the result was the same. The text and the scanned drawing do not convert at the same proportion.

Anita, probably I overread the part with the contained raster before I assume that not the text shifts, it may be the raster instead. Try the following: Import a raster. Select it and open the element info dialog. Increase the resolution value (e.g. 200 to 400) and apply it. Add some text on top of that raster. Export it and check the result. -> I assume that you scaled the raster with the scale tool what may have lead to odd resolution values. The process above could be used instead and may solve your topic. Worth a try... Much success, Christian

Hello Anita, Maybe some manual work is necessary, before exporting to eps. Can be done as a batch workload. Try positioning 2 identical bounding boxes (Dimensions of your Illustration) 1 transparent behind your callouts if on a seperate layer, and 1 behind your image in the same colour as the background. Maybe it works. Stephen

I forgot to mention that we are exporting to .tif and .eps from .cgm at 90%. I finally discovered a workaround for the shifting text. We open the .tif in isodraw (it's been reduced to 90% already) and just export to .eps at 100% and the text doesn't shift at all. This semms to work for now.
