log or other method of analyzing peak PE usage?

Hi,

We'd like to monitor and/or research the frequency that the number of
concurrent jobs exceeds the number of CPUs and by how much. Does anyone know
if this information is logged explicitly or whether logs can be analyzed to
figure this out? What logs? Do I need to enable them? Configure them?

Further, does anyone know if a subprocess is returned when an author cancels
a composition request? Or does the author just regain control of Editor
while PE spins away until the job is done even though no one is now waiting
for it?
