pi _newpage not creating a new page in some instances

We're using AE version 5.3 M050 & Arbortext PE...

I am print previewing a <book> made up of front matter hard coded into parent element <book> & file references to make the meat of it, when I place a _newpage command into the front matter it is not obeyed. If I place this command in one of the chapters that is referenced in the book, a new page is created without any problems.

Has anyone run into this before? Is there some sort of setting that could allow this PI command to work in one part of our xml document but not in another part?

I tried to check if there was an e-i-c for it but nothing.

Ideas? Thanks!

Ashley

I think it depends upon exactly where you put the _newpage PI. If it is
not in a place where the formatter is creating actual flowtext content,
probably nothing will happen. You "tried to check if there was an e-i-c
for it but nothing." An e-i-c for what? If there is an element
somewhere in the front matter, after which you want to start a new page,
you could use that e-i-c or create one in order to start a new page with
the FOSI. Or you could use the FOSI to place a pseudo-element in the
proper location, and code the e-i-c for the pseudo-element to start a
new page.

If you don't care about the validity of the document, you can place a
random element of any name in the same place where you have been putting
the PI, and create an e-i-c for this element which would start a new
page. FOSI doesn't care if it's a valid element. It will format it
regardless.

Either the pseudo-element or the real "fake" element (is that an
oxymoron?) should have at least a space character for content.
Otherwise, formatting might not occur.
