Regarding the volumes of paper pilots has to carry now... I wonder if they really may need to access any piece of information it those books. If so, electronic will greatly help to access the information faster.
In case most of the information is really just an "esoteric fluffery" and not read often, just getting rid of heavy bag is quite a self-sufficient bonus!
Speaking as someone who had to give up her laptop backpack for an inconvenient roller bag...
Anything that lightens the load is a good thing - regardless of who you are!
