Windchill License Download Functionality

Hi @JGENTHNER,

For the benefit of the community, could you please explain to everyone how the new licensing app works with the existing license download functionality inside Windchill (using credentials to pull a license)?

  • Does a user need to manually create a host and allocate some of their licenses to it before they can download the license file directly from Windchill?
  • If a user manually creates a host and allocates some of their licenses to it (in the new app), will the Windchill download functionality correctly pull that specific license (with the partial allocation), or will it continue to automatically pull all licenses available to the customer?

Thanks!

Hi @TomU ,

Today, the connected (online) mode has not changed.  It will continue to work exactly the way it is working today.  No visit to the portal is required nor used.

This will change over the next quarter as we move connected mode to be fully integrated with the new portal experience.  Here are our current thoughts on how this will work:

  • If connected mode requests a license file for a host not in the portal, it will be created as a non-production server and all available licenses will be assigned to the host.
  • If connected mode requests a license file for a host that already exists in the portal:
    • By default, it will add any "available" licenses to the host and return the license file
    • Portal users will have the option to enable a setting to preserve the configuration and just return a license file with revised end dates.  If this option is toggled, we will assume the customer wants to manually control what licenses are installed on the host.

Any additional feedback is welcome and will be taken under consideration.
